Yiu-Vern - Week 2

Lim Yiu-Vern @ 12 days old - 15 July 2015

Jaundice

After being admitted on Day 7 at 265, Vern's bilirubin level dropped to 179.6 and 135 where he was discharged on Day 9.
But on Day 10, his bilirubin level continued to climb to 170.
Went back to Dr Dan for checkup in which he was a little concerned because Vern's poo was still green-ish (and not golden yellow yet) and that was when I was given the task to take a photo of his poo every day! #lifeasamummy

On 26 July 2015 which was Day 13 and level continued to climb to 240.

And the following day at Day 14, reading shot up to 312.5 at Island Hospital and that scared the hell out of us.
Although both Shern and Khye had prolonged jaundice as well, they did not reach 300, so I was quite worried then.
Dr. Dan also requested to do a blood test on Vern to test out the functions of his liver, thyroid etc as he was born a 3 weeks earlier, which was just 'ngam-ngam' full term.
Thank goodness results showed everything normal but he still needed to go under photo treatment as his level was too high.
So poor Vern was admitted again in the evening at about 4pm. (2nd admission due to jaundice)
His weight during admission was just 3kg.

Following 2 days under photo treatment, his bilirubin level came down to 243 and 164 when he was discharged at Day 16.

Of Poo-s and Pee-s

Vern pees and poos quite a lot, averaging at least 10 wet diapers a day. I know, coz he wears lampin during the day, and thus I could count the number of diapers he changes.

His stools surprisingly did not turn golden yellow so fast. It was green-ish and then slowly turned into golden yellow in colour.
And after admission for photo treatment, his poos turned into dark brown for a day or so before it turned golden yellow again.

Breastfeeding

Vern drinks reaonably well and surprisingly was not a piranha when it comes to sucking milk. He doesn't suckle too vigorously like both his brothers.
But he does suckle well, so it was ok. Because he was not so vigorous, I did not have to deal with sore and cracked nipples as much as I did with Shern and Khye.

I did however religiously applied the nipple cream after every feed on the first few weeks, so maybe that helped too.

Sleep

Vern didn't really sleep through the night then, which I did not expect him to at 2wo.
He woke up every 3 hourly after his last feed at about 10pm. But at about 4-5am, he would turn into a milk monster and started asking for milk every 1/2 hr to 1 hr.
It was kinda exhausting doing that in the wee hours of every morning.

I am thankful that I am a breastfeeding mum and would just need to pop my boobs into his mouth and he would be suckling happily away. And that I didn't have to get up to make milk for him.

Photoshoot

Vern and us had a photoshoot with Karen Sim from K Studio. The above photo is by Karen. More photos to be shared later.

Miscellaneous
Oh ya, belly button dropped out at Day 13 on 26 July 2015. #jotdownforfuturereference

Little Man Vern's Fullmoon

Vern's Fullmoon Party - 15 August 2015

We celebrated Vern's fullmoon last Sunday 16 August 2015.

It was a very small celebration, just us family, and my parents-in-laws, and also both my uncle's family. That was all.

Initially I did not want to do any deco since I was not really inviting any friends or so, but then in the end, I couldn't do it. The OCD-ness in me started to stay up when my kids slept and started work for 2 hours until past midnight just the day before the party.
Yes, madness me!

In the end, I managed to do an easy Little Man/Moustache theme. I ended up with a little bunting, a cake topper and some toppers for my food.
That was all! Not bad for 2 hours of work though!

The simple bunting I did for the mini party.

The cake topper for the simple chocolate cake we got at the last minute.

This is how the whole table looks like, filled with sweet desserts and savoury food.

The customary nasi kunyit, ang ku kuih, and the delicious curry chicken and super delicious glutinous rice!

Other food which I had.
The must-have red eggs, the eggs and sardine sandwiches for the kids, the prune layer cake from Sunflower, and some Konyaku jellies.

And some fruits.

We sent out some fullmoon packages out to our neighbours and friends who stayed nearby. The rest, we are giving out vouchers.

Neighbour's daughter came to visit and Khye and her had a game of foosball together. lol.

Another neighbour came and his son who is not even 2 was such a good koko to baby Vern!

Love this photo of hubby and the 2 older kids.

Photos of our little family of 5!

Us with hubby's parents.

And us with my parents.

Adding in my sis Min and Ah-yee.

3 kaufu and family and 4 kaufu and family joined in.

And coincidentally, that day was also my beloved Dad & Mum's 35th Anniversary!
To be married and in love for 35 years, wow!!!

And this is the Little Man of the Party.
Yes, he was sleeping away! haha.

He was happily sleeping away throughout the party.

Min-yee and Me carried Vern out of his rocker, and truthfully he wasn't too happy about it.

To be in tuned with the Party theme, we all put on our moustaches!
This one's on our little family of 5!

And another one for everyone there (except PIL who went back early)!

That sums up the celebration of Vern's fullmoon.

Time really flies. My littlest baby is now 1 month old. And I still cannot imagine I now have 3 kids. Haha.

Kid's Art & Craft: Thomas and Percy Engines

11 Aug 2015 - Thomas & Percy Engines

It was art and craft time for Shern a week or so ago.
We got this Thomas & Friends Make & Do Book from Popular book fair quite awhile ago.

It's quite a fun book with instructions on how to build the characters of Thomas & Friends, which both my boys love.
In the book, they provide a scissors (a useless scissors!), some coloured pens, some googly eyes and some stickers (more stickers inside the book as well).

We then decided to build Thomas and Percy.
Thomas for Shern, and we decided to build Percy for Khye as well.
They were almost similar in terms of materials but we made do with what we had.

It was during my confinement month then, and my sister was staying over at some days, so she was helping out gladly with Shern, while I prepared all the materials needed.
Excited Shern eager to start the art and craft session. Khye was not around that day, so it was just Shern.

We did some modification from the book's instructions. Decided to wrap the boxes up instead of painting it so it would be less messy. Furthermore, I had some leftover blue and green colour papers from my Lego-themed party, so it was just perfect!

Shern and Min-yee hard at work, and Shern's cheeky face as he was busy drawing the windows with Sharpie.

Some photos of the work-in-progress.

And about an hour later, it was almost done while waiting for the paint to dry.
Yes, we ended up painting black on the funnels and the front of the engine's tube.
After the paint dried, they stuck on the wheels and it was all done.

And this is how Thomas looks like once done!
Thomas, the #1 cheeky little engine who is most little boy's favourite engine!

And this is Percy, the #6 engine on the Island of Sodor!

Shern with the 2 little engines.

Shern with his beloved Min-yee, who was absolutely helpful in this art and craft session. :)

The photo Min-yee posted on fb. haha.

And when Khye came back he was happy to get Percy to choo-choo and chugga-chugga around the house!

Ok, so time to make your own Thomas & Percy at home!
It is easy, all you need are some 2 mini cereal boxes, some toilet paper rolls, a straw, used bottle caps and a 'lil cotton wool.
As for the engines' faces, print off the internet and stick on it! Get creative!

I will try out the other characters in the book and will share with you all when I have the time.
Happy crafting with your kids!
