Shern's First Visit to the Dentist

When I returned from Melb last week, I noticed one of Shern's front tooth is grey in colour. It does not look like those cavity grey but more of a transparent-grey, like it being rotten from the inside of the tooth or something. I got quite worried and so was looking for child dentistry service in Penang. The only one I've heard of people going is the Queensbay Dental Surgery which is near Queensbay Mall.

Thanks to Josie and google, I found out that they have a branch and it is called SmileBay Dental Surgery which has child dentistry service. Best of all, it is located at Tanjung Bungah, which is so near our home.

So I made an appointment for Shern to have his first visit there. I also sent an email enquiry at the website, asking for a suitable child dentist and also my expectations. I mentioned that I would like my son to have a good first dentist experience and would prefer it if no procedure to be taken on his first visit. Just a get-to-know session.
They replied my email very professionally and recommended me to Dr. Tow.

So on Wednesday, straight after playschool, I brought Shern to SmileBay Dental Surgery. The place looks very new and clean.
13 June 2012
There is a water dispenser and so Shern had a cup of water. And there is also 2 computer for guests to browse the internet. Shern was doing some typing on Notepad and drawing on Paint to keep his occupied.

Afer about 15 mins, it was Shern's turn. Dr. Tow is a really, really nice lady dentist. She straightaway made Shern felt at ease with her. And she led Shern to the chair, telling him that the chair is like an airplane which can go up and down. Shern was so amused by it and sat on the chair with it up and down several times, and Dr. Tow obliged to his requests.

So when Dr. Tow requested for Shern to open his mouth for her, Shern obliged as well.
Then Dr. Tow told me the bad news. The greyish front tooth is dead, which is why it is greyish in colour. She told me it was caused by a knock onto something or a fall. She asked if Shern had any fall. Then I recalled him having a fall and knocked his lips 'til it was swollen in playschool. It must be then that the tooth took a hit and then it gradually died.

Dr. Tow said for now, she will not be doing anything. And since Shern has no pain, she does not want to make it painful for him. And so she would not do anything for now. The actual solution to the problem is like a 'root canal' for the adults where she needs to remove the nerves of the tooth and that requires injection.
Shern is still too young for it. And so she said she would not do anything for now as long as we don't mind the greyish blackened coloured dead tooth. She assured us that it would not fall off, not until he is 6 or so, but it will slowly turned darker in colour. But there might be a time where it may be infected (as it is a dead tooth with nerves) and then Shern may feel pain. But she won't know when that will happen. But for now since Shern has no pain, she will just leave it as it is and see how it goes, and she may do it for him when he is bigger and more ready.

I agreed with her. Her advice sounded good and so we will be bringing Shern to see her every three months once. And for that consultation, it was free of charge! I was surprised! She said she didn't do anything so it is free. So very good of her!

So people with kids in Penang, this is a child dentist I fully recommend. She is really good with kids and Shern likes her.

Because of her, Shern had a very pleasant first dental visit, with airplane seats! ;P

Shern's 3yo Birthday Celebration at Playschool

This is actually the THIRD time Shern is celebrating his 3yo birthday. Once with us on his real day, 2nd time at home with family and relatives, and now the third time he celebrated it in school with his friends!

Besides the chocolate cake I brought to school, I also made some party packs for Shern and his friends. It is optional but I think it will be nice for them to receive some yummy snacks.
There are 10 students in his class and there are 2 classes, so I prepared 20 packets of party packs.
Party Packs for Shern and his friends
It is simple to prepare. I put these snacks inside the sandwich ziplock bag. The snacks I put in are a packet of kid-sized Milo, Bin Bin biscuit, Krispies, Kinder choc stick and 2 Cocon jellies

Shern was very happy to see us appeared in school during his morning snack break. He said 'this is my mummy and daddy' when he saw us. He seems very proud to see us there!

And this is his teacher helping to put the candles and preparing the kids.

Then all the kids sang 'Happy Birthday' in English and even in Chinese version. This is the short video clip of them singing and Shern blowing the candles for the 3rd time!

The teacher even helped to take a photo of the 3 of us!

This is Shern with his piece of cake.

The kids are so cute and all looks very kuai.

Shern had a great time. So that is the end of Shern's birthday celebrations. 3 celebrations for the 3yo boy! Fuyoh!

Shern's 3yo Mini Birthday Party At Home

We had a mini birthday party for Shern at home. We wanted a small scale party, so we decided to keep it to only family and relatives. So we had about 15 ppl in our home last Saturday.

This is the food spread. Not a lot but more than enough. Mostly ordered from my ex-colleague who make very delicious food. I always order from her.

Hubby & I decided to let Shern open the birthday pressie we bought for him, so that he has something to occupy his time throughout the whole party. He was ecstatic with the pressie of course.

This is our home and you can see Shern playing with his new pressie while we ate and chat.

And halfway through, Shern asked 'Where is my birthday party?' (Birthday party is all about cake and singing the birthday song). :)
I told him to wait for 4-kau kong to come and then we will cut the cake.

Then it was time to bring out the cake.
This cake is the cake I bought but decorated it ourselves.
It's an awesome one-of-a-kind COLOURFUL 3rd Birthday Cake!

First of all, photos of the 3 of us!

A photo with Ah-Kong and Ah-Ma!

A photo with Pho-pho, Yee-Pho and Min-Yee!

A photo with Irene & Siew Phaik ee-ee!

The whole group of us!

A photo with Min-yee, who is a very valuable photographer of the night! ;)

Shern is so much more aware of his birthday this year, compared to the previous years. He can now sing his own birthday song and blow all the 3 candles off the cake all by himself!

Then comes the cake cutting part. Even before this, Shern had popped a few M&Ms off the cake. He just couldn't wait!

So all in all, I'm so glad I prepared this mini birthday party for Shern. He was in a good mood the whole night and really enjoyed himself.
Thank you so much for those who took time off to attend the party.

Happy Birthday Yiu-Shern. May you be blessed with good health and happiness!
We love you very much!

Shern's COLOURFUL 3rd Birthday Cake

As usual, I ordered a cake and then I decorated it myself. I did that to Shern's 1yo birthday and also 2yo birthday.
So for Shern's 3yo birthday party last Saturday, I did the same for the cake. This cake is Chocolate Indulgence from Secret Recipe. Shern is as much a chocolate lover as his mum, so a chocolate cake is the choice for his party.

This time around, there is no specific party theme. So I just used Shern's favourite M&Ms to make it a colourful cake. These train holder candles I grabbed it when I saw it at Melb, as Shern is still very into trains.

This is how the whole cake looks like:

I used Pretz sticks to form Shern's name at the side of the cake and also the number '3' on top of the cake.

This is the top view of the cake.

Look at Shern's happy face when he saw the cake. I think he didn't really notice the cake. He just saw the many, many, many M&Ms on the cake. And not surprisingly, he stole a few M&Ms even before we finished singing the birthday song. ;)

I will post about his mini birthday in the following post. This post is all about his very awesome one-of-a-kind COLOURFUL 3rd Birthday Cake his mum deco for him! ;)

25 Weeks with 'Lil Bub

25 weeks pregnant - 7 June 2012
I am almost 6 month preggy with 'Lil Bub and I am starting to feel the weight of my tummy. My tummy is growing bigger exponentially now that I am at the end of my 2nd trimester. I felt my tummy grew bigger even in just 10 days in Melbourne.

I have always have an arch back posture even before I was pregnant. And now that I am preggy, my back seems to arch more. And even with my big tummy, my hands and legs are still in their original sizes, or at least they didn't grow big much.
And believe it or not, even with this tummy size, if you look at me from behind, you wouldn't even know I am pregnant! Haha...is a miracle, really.

Just got back from the scheduled gynae visit, and this time I brought Shern along. I thought it would be a great way to share the process of me having a baby, and him a baby brother.
However, I chose the wrong week to bring him. We waited for 2 hours before Dr. Eric called me in. Luckily, Shern was behaving quite well, although he was skipping around and couldn't sit still.

During the ultrasound, it shows 'Lil Bub's head is 2 weeks bigger than my gestation week 25. And his overall length is 1 week bigger. Gynae said is pretty normal and I remember having the same case when I had Shern in my tummy as well.

But all is well and I am on my way to hoping for a VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarian) this time around! :)

Yiu-Shern Turns 3!

Shern turns 3 the next day after we touched down Penang. I can't believe how much my baby has grown. Has it been 3 years already? I can still remember the day I first took him home from the hospital. And now look at him, he has almost reached my waist in height and is the little man at home.

We brought this back for Shern when we came home from Australia. It was a hanging car ramp for his Hot Wheels cars. He seems pretty happy with it and has been playing with it for the past few days. So should I say that this is also considered his birthday pressie from us! ;)

We took him to Adventure Zone for his birthday. It was a rainy day so the place is perfect as it is indoors and he had a great time there. As usual he loves the ball pit and spent quite awhile there. Look at how much my little boy has grown!

At night, we had a mini celebration at home. Bought a few slices of cakes from Secret Recipe and Shern had a great time singing his own birthday song, blowing the candles and cutting the cake. And he loves Chocolate cake!

We Are Back from Our Babymoon!

Dating with hubby at the Royal Botanic Garden, Melbourne - 3 June 2012

Yes, we are back from our babymoon trip to Melbourne!

It was a lovely and relaxing 10 days trip. We took the train to mostly Melb CBD and hopped on trams to get to our destination.
Ate authentic Vietnamese, Greek and even Spanish cuisine, and of course Aussie western cuisine as well.
We ate yummy cold Gelato while watching the fire display by Crown Casino by the riverside, and ate macarons by the pond at the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was really awesome.

And I made hubby fell in love with Melbourne as much as I do. This is the only place I hope to visit again and again.

But I'm glad to be back. And we were greeted by Shern shouted 'Welcome home mummy and daddy. I miss you'. I miss you too baby! ;)
