Cheesecake Squares

I've always loved cheese cakes.
I've wanted to bake cheesecakes for quite some time - but cream cheese is getting more and more expensive.
Last weekend, while in Cold Storage, Philadelphia Cream Cheese was on sale for only RM9.90 for 250g. Grabbed 2 blocks of it and was searching for cheesecake recipes.
I've done 2 types of cheese cakes - Chilled Cheese Cake & Mini Invididual Cheesecake.

This time, I was contemplating between Chocolate Cheesecake or Cheesecake Squares. Finally decided on Cheesecake Squares from joyofbaking.com because it only requires 2 blocks of cream cheese, while the Chocolate Cheesecake is a much bigger cake which requires 4 blocks of cream cheese. Broke.

Baked it last night. Put it into the fridge to firm it. Served it this morning with fresh strawberries and a dallop of strawberry jam.
YUMMY!!!

This is a recipe which I will definitely bake again in the near future!

Yiu-Shern - week 26

4 Dec 2009

Yiu-Shern's 26 weeks Milestone

Pop Into His Mouth It Goes
Everything that he can grab goes straight into his mouth. Immediately.
Many of his toys were taken from him because the paint may come out and it may be toxic, especially those with 'made from China' labels.

4 Dec 2009

Mosquito Bites
We woke up one morning and we saw Shern's face full of red spots - mosquito bites.
There were more than 10 spots on his face. His right ear alone had 5 red spots.

Shern looked so pitiful. How itchy and painful he must have felt. My heart ached for him. Damn those mosquitoes.

1 Dec 2009

Immediately went to Wellings Parmacy to buy some medicine for him to apply. Also bought Moz Away Mosquito Repellent Spray which is safe for baby use.

Attention Span
Shern's attention span is real short. Max 15 minutes and he gets bored. Look at his many toys hanging on top of his rocker.
We gave him his toy one at a time - adding to it, hoping for him to stay there longer

1 Dec 2009

Buckle-Up
It is a definite must to buckle Shern up whenever we put him in his rocker. Look how strong he is. He can kinda sit up and if he is not being buckled up, he will surely fall forward.

4 Dec 2009

Sleep
Shern could not sleep for long when being put down in his baby cot during day. Max 1 hour. The moment he realized he is being put down in his cot, he makes noise.
Then we need to carry him up and rock him back to sleep before we put him down again.
Ahhh....I really don't know how to train him to sleep back when he wakes up.

But I definitely love watching him sleep. He looks so peaceful when he is sleeping. And sometimes he snores too ;)

5 Dec 2009

Started Solid Food
Started him on homemade brown rice cereal as mentioned in my previous entry. (with videos too)
He seemed to love his solid food and would finish a small bowl of it in less than 15 minutes - very fast considering that his spoon is so small. Many mouthfuls indeed.

First Dinner Outing With Family
We took Shern out for a short dinner at Sri Ananda Bahwan, Tg Bungah. It was just a 2 minutes' drive away from our place.

Shern made lots of noise and wanted to be carried. He did not want to be strapped to his stroller.

Look at him looking curiously at the waiter taking orders from us?

2 Treasured Group Photos of the Little Shu-Yin

Actually I have many treasured photos. I love photos. I am a very much photo person.
There are 2 photos with myself in it which I treasure a lot.

First is a photo of me and my cousins at Emah's house. Taken on Oct 1985 - when I was 3 years old.

l to r: Ruo Shi, me, Chun Huey, Yi Ling, Shu-Wen, Choon Leng

These are the only kids there at that time - before the rest were born.
Before Hung, Yang, Rose, Min, Wei, Yan, Ern, Phing, Ann....hehe

Second is my kindergarten Year 1 photo - taken when I was 5 years old.

Fettes Park Baptist Church Kindergarten 1986 Class Photo

I found a few of them after losing contact for more than 20 years - how? - through Facebook of course :)

Yiu-Shern - week 25

28 Nov 2009

Yiu-Shern's 25 weeks Milestone

Reaching Out
Shern is now reaching out with his hands for everything.
If you are lucky, he will be reaching out for his toys, pacifier, etc.
If he is in a naughty mood, he will be reaching out for your spectacles, necklaces, earrings.
Beware!

25 Nov 2009

Within Sight
Shern still loves tummy time. But only when there is someone near him - as in you are still within his sight. Once he lost sight of you, he makes noise.
So when you leave him on his tummy playing with his toys, once a while he will take a peek at you to see if you are still there!

25 Nov 2009

Shern with Jocelyn
We borrowed Janette Sis's maid Jocelyn for a few days to help us to clean our still-messy home. Shern takes quite a liking to her and did not mind her carrying him.

27 Nov 2009

Making Faces
Shern is always making funny faces - especially with his mouth. He will twith his mouth up and down, right to left.

23, 25 & 29 Nov 2009

How Is Mummy Doing?

Jocelyn gave me a breather at those times she came over - helping me to clean the house and also to take care of Shern. How I wish we have a maid. (do you hear me, darlin'?)

Shern's First Outing With Our Friends

Yesterday dinner was to celebrate Ashley's Fullmoon - though it is like late by two weeks plus. :)
It was also Shern's first outing with just our friends.

The trip from Tg Bungah to Chayu Kafe in town was a 45 minutes car ride due to the super jammed Penang roads. Cars were crawling everywhere. I guess Friday nights and school holidays explain it all.

Because of the this, Mich, Wai Min and Yi Jie could not make it from Butterworth. It was a waste because if not, all the babies of the group would be there.

Not surprisingly, we arrived more than half an hour late. Shern was getting restless in the car and so was kinda happy when I carried him out.

Anyway, usual comments of Shern looking like daddy were being mentioned again and again.

"Looks like Peter sebulat-bulat"
"Hie Hie Little Peter"

11 Dec 2009 - Like Father, Like Son

I'm proud to say Shern behaved himself alright last night. No tantrums. No crying.
Just superbly active all the while. Even Karen who saw Shern for the first time yesterday mentioned that Shern is really such an active child. I guess she dared not say the word 'naughty'. :P

Ashley being the princess of the day was behaving like a little angel. She has got big beautiful eyes. She slept most of the time though.

Siow Sen with Ashley, Ee Xion with Marcus, me with Shern

It is not easy bringing the super active Shern out. But it is bearable because this group of friends all have babies. So they are more sensitive to babies needs.

Group Photo (pic stolen from Karen Ooi's blog :P)

During the ride home, although no more traffic jams, Shern started to make noise. After a while, he fell asleep in my arms.
Once reached my mum's place, he woke up. Took this pic below because of his huge stomach! :)

Shern's stomach big-big like daddy's

Oatmeal Raisin Chocolate Chip Cookies

I'm starting to bake again. I have the mood, just don't have the time. :)
This time, my dad & ah yee looked after Shern while I baked these cookies.

The recipe actually called for rolled oats and raisins only. But as a die-hard chocolate fan, I could not help but threw in 100g of chocolate chips to the batter.

I don't usually bake cookies because I find it time-consuming. I mean, baking time is about 15-20 minutes and I can only do 6 cookies at a time. I need to bake so many rounds.

But the end results is so rewarding.

I love these soft cookies. The texture is just so nice. So wonderfully chewy.

I baked a whole canister.

I am going to have them for breakfast and as my whole day snacks. :)
