Conversation With Shern @ 2 years 10 months - Part 1

I enjoy talking to Shern now that his vocabulary widens. It is simply hilarious to hear his replies sometimes. I just want to jot down now that I can still remember, so that I can read back many years later and smile. :)                                                                        ~~~~~~~~~~
Me: Shern, you will need to sleep with daddy at night ok? Because when baby comes out, baby will cry and mummy will need to take care of baby, ok?
Shern: Shern-Shern will take care of mummy and baby!
                                                                       ~~~~~~~~~~
Me: When Shern-Shern big, Shern-Shern will go to another big school ok?
Shern: When Shern-Shern big, Shern-Shern will go to work! :)
                                                                       ~~~~~~~~~~
Shern wanted to open the fridge to see if there are any snacks in it. He walks to me and say,
Shern: Mummy, do you want to open fridge?
                                                                         ~~~~~~~~~~
Every morning, Shern wakes up to tell me 'It's Saturday, today no school'
I think that he hopes that by saying this everyday, it will really becaome Saturday!
                                                                          ~~~~~~~~~~

Shern was asking hubby to go out of the room, saying is Shern-Shern & Mummy time.
Me: Shern, you cannot ask daddy to go out. Daddy always carry Shern-Shern and drive Shern-Shern go kai-kai.
Shern thought for awhile and then went out to find hubby.
Shern: Daddy, don't be sad. Come in the room.

Photo with Ah-Ma & Ah-Kong

Last Sunday, when we were in MIL's place, Shern was behaving like an angel.
He asked to take photos with Ah-Kong & Ah-Ma. So sweet of him. I was surprised because that was the first time I heard him asking to take photos with anybody. I happily obliged of course.

Here are the 2 photos I took using my iPhone.:

Shern was smiling so sweetly in both photos.

We stayed there for dinner as well because Shern requested Ah-Ma to cook for him egg with rice and sauce. :)

Shern Back In Action!

Shern was all well again, we brought Shern to a nearby playground. Pity him being cooped up in the house for a week already. It's a playground we've never been, so Shern was delighted to be going to a 'new playground'.

Shern was happy just walking on the heightened sides, saying that he was walking on a 'railway track' as usual. He has this obsession with trains lately. He knows what is a railway track, a funnel, and tenders and caboose and dunno what else.

He is still unable while sitting on a swing. He doesn't really know how to transfer his weight yet. Initially hubby pushed him, but then he asked his dad not to. So he was just contented just sitting there while it swing slowly.
I was quite afraid he would let go his hands, but he didn't luckily.

Then there is this mini hill where he likes to climb 'til the top of it and then climb down again.

When he was at the top, he kicked and rolled his ball down. Then he tried to kick his ball uphill but failed. Haha. It is time for him to learn gravity. ;)

We spent quite an hour or more there because Shern was so happy. I guess it was like releasing from jail after a week of staying at home. I'm so glad he is alright again.

Lastly a photo of the 3 of us on top of the hill, with Shern showing us his signature smile! ;D

HFMD

If you've been following my facebook status updates, then you would have heard by now that Shern is down with Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD).

I've been kinda expecting this to come sooner or later since he started playschool. I've read many other parents blogs bout their kids getting HFMD once they started daycare of playschool. And seems like it is common among kids below 5 years of age.

So when Shern started to develop a fever last Sunday, I kept on checking his hands and foot for rashes or spots but couldn't find any. His fever was mild and he was still behaving normally, which is still his active self.
Look at him still posing for the camera even having fever.

15 April 2012

But one thing though, Shern hates having the KoolFever pad on his forehead. I guess it is too cold for them kids. So he didn't like it and kept on asking me to take it off. I needed to persuade him to let me stick it there, and at last he allowed, asking me to promise to take it off the very next morning. ;)

On Monday, he was still having mild fever on and off. So he did not attend playschool. He was still running around and playing with his cars and trains like usual.
But he told me one thing that should have given me a symptom but I put him off. At night, while walking back to our home, he told me his left foot 'pain pain'. I took off his shoes and cleaned his foot, thinking it was sand that irritated him.

On Tuesday morning, I immediately saw rashes and spots on everywhere of his body. I then know he has HFMD. So I brought him to see his paed.

17 April 2012

Doctor checked him and confirmed it is HFMD. Recommended him to be hospitalized so that they can monitor him properly but I was not keen. If he is not on drip or anything serious, I prefer to take care of him at home. If Shern is hospitalized, means I am hospotalized, together with him. Just me and him in the hospital room will drive both of us crazy. So I rather him not be admitted unless it is absolutely necessary.

Doctor then asked me to apply the Daktarin gel in his mouth every 4 hourly and to bathe with with the diluted Potassium Permanganate water to dry his spots. And I am to bring him back 2 days later in case he gets worse, and might need to have his blood tested. I obliged.

Look at my poor baby on Day 1 of HFMD.

17 April 2012 - Ulcers in and around his mouth, and even on his ears.

Rashes and blister-like spots on his legs and feet.

Rashes on the base of his feet.

Shern was VERY whiny the whole day. In fact, he became a cry baby and stuck to me like a magnet the whole day. I tried to be patient with him as I know he is in pain, but sometimes he drives me crazy. 2 days and I am really so tired.

With doctor's recommendation, we gave him cold things like vitagen, yogurt, ice-creams. So when he gets to eat those things, he is quite happy. I later made my own fruit juice popsicle for him too.

I am still thankful Shern is still eating. I let him eat whatever he wants to eat, as long as he is eating. He wants cake, I gave him cake. He wants yogurt, I gave him yogurt. Better than him not eating at all.
Rice he does eat but not much. And I noticed he drinks less milk, guess the sucking hurts although I tried to make the milk as cool as possible.

This is him bathing with the diluted Potassium Permanganate solution. Shern likes the purple water and said he would emerge out as the purple Barney. Haha.

18 April 2012

2 days later, which is today, we brought him back to his paed. His rashes became more blister-like and still not so dry yet. But he was really in a happier mood today. No whining at all in the morning. And he was in a very happy mood at the clinic, although we waited there for almost 1 hour before we could see the doctor.

19 April 2012

Look at him being so happy on his 3rd day of HFMD. He is sucking the lollipop given to him by the paed. ;)

19 April 2012

And now that he is feeling much better, I kept on pumping him with water. Luckily he drinks, coz I told him the water will wash away the 'ek ek' (dirt) in his mouth. He complains of ek ek in his mouth, which I guess are the ulcers.

Hope you get well soon baby.
My baby happy, mummy also happy. ;)

Back to Playschool

We started Shern on playschool again in April after stopping for a month or so. This is certainly great advice from the principal because now Shern is going to somewhere familiar, rather than a strange new place.

It was decided that we send him there and if he still cries the whole time there, we will go and fetch him back after half an hour (instead of the normal 2 1/2 hrs). This is so that he will know that mummy and daddy is coming back for him soon, since he has not grasp the sense of time yet. And the following day, we will do the same. Leave him and if he cries the whole time again, half an hour later we would be back. And gradually once he understand the whole idea that we are not going to abandon him, we could then slowly lengthen the time. This was the plan.

He was still a little skeptical when we left him there. He bawled and cried of course but once we left him there, he was OK. According to the teacher, he cried on and off but he was clingy and wanted to cling to a teacher. That is improvement for me. At least no more crying the whole time. So we only went to fetch him back 2 1/2 hours later.

The next day, the same crying of bucketful of tears. But this time, he allowed the teacher to carry him away. No phone calls from the playschool so we did not go earlier to fetch him. And no more clinging to a teacher. Another improvement.

On Wednesday, no more bawling but there were still tears streaming down his face. He went to the teacher's arms and said 'I wanna kiss mummy' and 'touch mummy's 'mak' (mole)'. Yes, my son has this fetish over the mole on my arm. :)
He starts joining the activities there and no more crying once we left. Improvement, huh?

Since then, it was like that. There were still protests of 'I don't want to go school' but then would allowed the teacher to carry him in after kissing me goodbye.

The funny thing is this. Every time after I fetch him home, he would say,
'I want to go school'.
Then I would tell him 'school is closed for the day, we go to school tomorrow ok?'
'OK'.
This would go on for a few times the whole afternoon. But come night time, he would then change and say,
'I don't want to go school'
:P

But I can see that he is happy in school. The teachers tell me he is joining in all activies. And he comes home singing new songs and telling me new things he learns in school. So I gather this is just my son being very lemak. Yes, the teachers say he is very lemak too. :D

Little Bub is a BOY!

(image source: http://thekruser.com/2011/07/14/new-foursquare-badge-alert-its-a-boy/)

Yes, there will be another boy in our little family.
We found out 2 days ago (week 16) when little bub decided to spread his thighs wide during the ultrasound checkup. I kinda expected it so I wasn't too surprised (mother's instincts!).
My sis told me that I'm going to have 3 boys as my mum has already given birth to all the girls. Ahem.

Peter was happy and didn't mind because he reminded me we are going to have 5 babies anyway. *roll eyes*. I'm happy in the sense that I don't need to shop for girly stuff yet. Little bub is just going to wear all his bro's clothes. Haha.

During the ultrasound, I kept on asking the gynae if everything is normal. I didn't really care if little bub has a penis or a vagina. All I wanted to know is if his heart is beating loud and strong, or if little bub has 10 fingers and toes. My first trimester test came out good with low risk of any anomalies, so I am thankful.

Well, I am now preparing my mind and body to have 3 boisterous boys in my life! 'Til then. :D

CNY 2012 Crashing Party

This is a much much belated post.
We are stepping into April now and I am blogging about CNY. Omg.

Well, this year, my dear friends decided to come crash my house during CNY. They sent out private invites through facebook with the title 'CNY Crashing Party'. Well, to tell the truth, the title did scared me a little. But I'm glad it turned out to be a mild gathering although with some wine. :)

Besides yee sang from Sushi King,

28 January 2012

I prepared some food for us. Most were ordered.

We had a great time just eating and tossing the yee sang.
Btw, the prettiest hand belongs to me :)

Just look at their laughing faces! And this year, we tossed our yee sang really high.

We ended up just chatting and chatting and chatting.
Here is a group photo of us. 12 years since we left high school and we are still good friends *proud*
