Halloween Costume - My Jet Pack Boys

It was a last minute thing. Unlike last year's Halloween making that complicated Train Costume, I had not much time this year.
I did some Pinterest search though and knew that I wanted to make these Jet Packs that Shern wanted, but I did not get my bum up to actually do it until yesterday, which was already the Halloween eve.

I went to grab the materials only 3 days ago.
The materials are simple and few.

To make a Jet Pack, all you just need are below:-
- 2 empty mineral bottles,
- A roll of soft aluminium foil
- Crepe paper
- Thin elastics (not shown here)
- Scissors, craft glue and tape

I got the roll of soft aluminium foil from Daiso for RM5, and the crepe papers from Popular Bookstore for RM1 each. 

First, just wrap the aluminium foil around the bottles. I used the glue for this.  You can make it longer than the bottom of the bottles for a longer jet pack for taller kids.
But please don't cover the bottle cap as you need to roll the crepe papers there. (you will see this later)

 

Next, cut the crepe paper into strips. This is the most time consuming part. Took me awhile to cut these.

Then put a long strip of tape onto the floor, and stick those crepe papers onto the tape halfway like this.

Once done, roll the tape onto the bottle cap.

Next, put some tape and stick the two jet packs together. I used another small piece of the foil to cover the tapes.
And then stick the elastics like below for the kids to put their arms through them (and wear it like a backpack)

I did these in about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

My boys will be the Jet Pack boys for Halloween today and also on this weekend when we go Trick-or-Treating!

Halloween to my boys are just donning on costumes, and nothing on those scary ghosts and death-y kinda Halloween!!! hahaha.

Yiu-Khye's Vocabulary Repertoire @ 25 Mths

Khye's was not talking and was only doing actions at his 18mo update.  

And Khye was still not talking much even when he turned two.

Besides the 'mama' 'papa' and 'yee-yee', he was not interested in talking or even repeating words after us, shaking is head no when he was asked to repeat words. 

Although I am considered quite lax on this (as Shern was a late talker too), but then I also started to worry a little about his speech development. 

Maybe he knew that I was a little worried, because Khye suddenly decided to open his mouth and eased my worries!

So within this one month, he has been talking more and more. 

His vocabulary increased to saying more things such as calling 'pho-pho' and 'koko' and even 'yee-pho' in which he could not say different word sounds initially.

I know this is not much compared to other kids. But I am still happy and proud that my little boy is making speech progress.

And in just one month, his vocabulary repertoire increased so much!

He was in a good mood while showering and was repeating words after me, so I just grabbed my phone and captured this short video clip.

You can hear that he has been saying two-syllable words such as 'Blue Ball', 'Blue Car', 'Bubble' and 'Yee-Pho'. And 'Lorry' was a new word in which I mentioned to him first time ever and I'm glad he could repeat that after me.

And I simply love it when he does the 'pok pok pok' chicken sound....lol

I'm proud of you little boy.
Grow at your own speed and grow well, and mummy is forever your number 1 fan!

Kid's Art & Craft: Cardboard Box Tunnels and Railroads

Cardboard Box Tunnels and Railroads - 23 Oct 2014

Yes, we are on a roll!
After the Thumbprint Freight Train, and the Painting With Trains activity I did with Shern last week, today I added another Train Activity for my kids.

As usual, I went to my Pinterest board for inspiration and saw this fabulous idea I'd been eyeing for quite some time. And since today is Deepavali school holiday for Shern, we spent some time in the afternoon doing this.

To make this is rather simple. Just find a plain cardboard box (I used my old discarded Ikea Raskog's box).
I then cut some holes to make the tunnels. It was not a perfect cut as it was not easy cutting through thick cardboard but it was good enough for my kids!
And then just decorate it anyway you want!

This time, as usual, I involved Shern in the activity.
I asked Shern to draw some railway tracks/railroads across the top and sides of the box.
We used a black Sharpie for that!

 

Khye was not left out too because I got him another box and also some magic pens and let him doodle on the other box, so that he would not come scribble on the box Shern was working on!

After the tracks, we used green magic pens for Shern to draw a scenery. 

Shern drew trees and flowers and clouds.

And then Khye also went to take more trains and then started to play with it too.

 

Both of them then started to play together and I could here 'choo choo....chugga chugga....bang....!' sounds coming from both their narration! 

 

After a while, it was Khye who continued playing with it for a long time. Guess this simple activity was more for Khye!
He enjoyed himself so much playing peekaboo with his trains and the tunnels and also on the railway tracks on top!

 

 

 

Khye also likes to push all his trains inside the tunnels. And slowly take them out one by one!

What I like about this is that if you decide to bring this on-the-go, like to Grandma's house or something, it is easy to keep. Just turn over the box and throw all the trains/cars inside it! This is so that you don't mess up Grandma's place after play and so that all the little trains don't go missing!
Khye helped to keep them too!

 

This is a very simple DIY you can do with your older kids (let them decorate it), and while your younger kids will have a fantastic train time! He would be occupied with the box for hours while you can have some peace!

World Children's Day @ Penang Times Square - 11 October 2014

Stumbled Upon World Children's Day Charity Fair @ Penang Times Square two Sundays ago. The kids sure had fun. 

We were actually there in the morning at about 10pm but the event would start only at 2pm.
We grabbed a bite at the food court and coaxed both of them for a short nap, so that they would be energized from 2-5pm.
Just next to the food court was this mini Kids Playland and the kids spent 1/2 there.

 

 

At last managed to get both of them to have a short nap.

Hubby went to take the stroller from the car boot for Shern to nap in it, while I babywore Khye to sleep.

It was a peaceful one hour and perfect for shopping, but too bad there were no interesting shops in Times Square. Haha.

Once they were awake, they had fun playing with this ball booth.
Like what I captioned in my Instagram post then, it is very easy to make my kids happy. Just give them a ball and some holes and they are kept occupied for a long time!

And then the highlight of the whole floor were these two Bouncing Castles.
Shern couldn't wait to get on it.
Shern got to play in both of them for 1 hour. We didn't let Khye in because there were a few big-sized kids and I'm sure if they fall down on Khye, he would be as flat as a pancake! lol!

 

So Khye was seated safely in the stroller, and after that hubby took him to the Mini Playground to play the slides there again.

And Shern continued to bounced and jumped and made new friends at the Bouncing Castles. 

There was a cake cutting ceremony and the kids/parents there were also distributed a big piece of the cake. The cake tasted quite good actually, light and spongy, though I scraped off the thick buttercream.

After jumping for one hour, Shern went to do his first activity - which was to stick those colourful scrunched up balls onto the big flower photo.

 

And then he went to his chosen activity - Garden In A Jar.
It was a lovely activity indeed, and Shern had fun putting layers of earth and sand and pebbles into his glass jar, and topped it up with a plant and his zebra!
He also had fun decorating his brown paper bag in which he stuck those given stickers and he drew a train and rode his name on it!

 

 

This was what he did and brought home! Now it is being displayed proudly in his room!

And as Marrybrown was one of the sponsor, their Mascot walked around for photo taking. Shern took a photo with the Mb Mascot, but Khye was scared of it and went far far away.

For food, they were given a packet of Mb food (a box of nuggets and a packet of fries) and also a bottle of chilled Ribena drink. 

 

 

They sat down to eat. Shern eating the nuggets while Khye had the fries. 

Long time since they last ate fast food so they were enjoying it, or maybe they were really hungry after all the running and jumping! haha.

And then each child were given a big paperbag full of goodies, which contained stationeries such as paper files, mechanical pencils and erasers, and many types of junk food. And there were even coffee powder inside. haha. Not really child-friendly actually. Too much junk food.

 

And after that they continued playing with the balls and played until they were tired.

It was a good workout and fun day for the kids!
