2013 In Review

I'm inspired to write this post after reading Josie's.

Now that 2013 has almost come to an end, it's time for me to sit down and look through my life this year.

Instead of depending on my rusty memory, I read through my blog and how I documented all the special things we did throughout the year. I'm so glad I am a blogger.

Then I took out my Project Life album and see all those routine stuff we do each week, see my kids funny antics and read about the things they say. Project Life has been fun documenting routine stuff with beautiful papers. The small things matter.

And then I took out my iPhone and scrolled through the photos in Camera Roll. Through there I see even more things. My life is basically captured through my camera, and my phone and most of all my blog. Do you know I have like 9000+ random photos in my phone Camera Roll?

2013 has been a year of challenge for me. It's basically life with having 2 kids. Khye came to our family late of last year and then we grow as a family of 4 this year, going for family holidays in Singapore and KL, and doing many things just the 4 of us.

Being a mum to two is not easy. As Shern grows up to be a very active and cheeky 4 yr old, the duties of caring for a newborn and now toddler starts all over again with Khye.

I learned to be more patient and less hysterical when it comes to dealing with two kids.
I also learned there each child is so different. Shern with his prolonged breastmilk jaundice and being a late talker, and Khye with his nipple confusion and delay in taking solids.
I learned to take one step at a time.

When it comes to friendship, it has also been a wavering year. Some friends just shut me off just because I am now a mother of two and no more joining them for some sessions. Other friends understand. So I learned to stick with friends who accept me for who I am, for the boring mum I am.

And I've got a group of really good childhood friends who we chat almost every day in whatsapp (thank God for smartphone apps!). We are all worlds apart, with some living in another country. But it has been great that we all kinda support each other no matter what.

And being a stay-at-home-mum, I don't have colleagues and many friends. So I really appreciate those few close friends that I have.
Sure, I have so many hundreds of friends in my Facebook account, but only a handful of them whom I'm really close to.

This is also the first year we've been invited to a real Christmas Party. Actually there were 2 invitations this year. So this year is the first for me to buy so many Christmas presents, and guess what, it was fun. It was a good feeling to buy gifts for people and see the smile on their faces.

I'm also grateful of my family support throughout, especially with my kids. And my sis's firstborn, Ethan joined our family in early December. He's such a cutie and I can't wait to see him. My sis is like so many thousand miles away and I do miss her. That's when I'm forever thankful to Whatsapp and Facebook Chat and emails.
And for that also I'm grateful that I have my little sister still in Penang, and that I have my parents staying so near to me.

2013 has also been a fruitful year for me as I do more product reviews. I had the opportunity to work with many great brands and many wonderful people. Doing the thing I love and seeing how the work being paid off is great. It's the little accomplishment that makes me feel good.

This is the year that we went for house hunting. It has been a tiring yet fun searching for our dream house. We searched for more than half a year before we found something we both like. And now we can strike off #5 in my Life List:
5. Buy a landed property with a spacious garden.
And we hope to move in soon, but first I need to go for furniture hunting and do some really tight budgeting.

And most of all, I am grateful for my hubby for providing us the love and care. It is he who loves us unconditionally even though sometimes I can be the crazy wife. Although hysterical at times, he still showers us much love and being so accomodating. Thank you hubby for everything.

So overall, I think 2013 has been a great year.
After all, I have now learn to be contented and to live life to the fullest in every way we can.

I Had My Wisdom Tooth Surgically Removed

Well, I had these 2 troublesome wisdom teeth for the longest time at my lower jaw, like at least 15 years ago. They are troublesome because they did not erupt vertically as the should, but grew at a near 90 degree angle. And they did not grow fully, but just emerged enough to be seen, but not enough to be gripped and extracted.
Them growing at such an angle also means food and such gets lodge in between the gap of my last molar and the wisdom tooth, especially on my left side.
So you say leh, troublesome or not?

My previous dentist (whom I super miss!) already asked me to have them removed asap as she said by the time we found out the damage, my molar might be damaged too as it is difficult to see the cavity in between there. But I didn't do anything to it as I was afraid of surgery, and I would rather wait and see.

Then sometime last month, I felt my cavity in my left wisdom tooth got bigger. So I paid a visit at Smile Bay Dental last month. And Dr. Tow told me that the cavity is now bigger and is better to remove it than wait 'til it touched a nerve which would be very painful then. She doesn't do surgical, and she introduced me her husband Dr. Andy who can surgically removed for me in Smile Bay.

I went home and did some googling and asking friends on it. Many friends recommended me a few dentists, but in the end I went to Dr. Heng from Adventist Hospital, largely due to Winnie who just did hers there not so long ago and she recommended it too.

So the following week, I went there with hubby, feeling totally scared. Look at my face.
3 July 2013

My heart was beating damn fast, and there was as if a big rock on top of me. I was literally shaking. I hate dentists and so scared of them, especially when I know what they were going to do to me!

Yes, being such a google savvy person is not good.
I knew before going in that the procedure was roughly going to be:

First, a few injection to numb my mouth. Then slit open my gums. And then break the bones as my whole tooth is beneath it. Then saw my tooth to several pieces and extract them out.

So tell me, doesn't it sound scary to you?

While waiting, the nurse asked me to go take an x-ray. I wore a heavy plumbum clothing on top and took an x-ray after signing a document which says "I am not pregnant".

When my number was called, I went into the room alone (hubby went to run some errands). I glanced at Dr. Heng and was glad that he looks gentle, and not fierce, and then I gave a sigh of relief. And then I told the doctor I am so afraid. Dr. Heng assured me that this is a simple procedure and is just like doing a filling.
(I didn't tell him that I did too much googling and I know exactly what he is going to do to me!)

And I also told the doctor of my concerns of the medicine and painkiller being used as I am a breastfeeding mum. He took note.

I sat on the chair, and the next thing I knew, I saw him holding a syringe with a very long and sharp needle for some anaesthethic. I knew the needle had to be long to be able to reach the back of my mouth, but boy, it looked damn scary! And then I was given 3 jabs. To be honest the jabs didn't hurt much. It just looked scarier! We waited for 5 minutes for the jabs to take effect. Dr. Heng told me half of my mouth and part of my tongue should feel numb to the touch. I told him there was a little numbness and that was all, still could feel my own pinch very well. So he added another jab for me, and after that more numbness set in.
It was nothing like epidural. I could still feel the touch, just that the left part of my mouth was numb and I felt that it was puffing up and swollen, but it wasn't. It was just the numbness.

Dr. Heng then put a square hard sponge for me to bite gently so that my mouth has a big enough gap for him to work on. I felt so uncomfortable as it was way too big for my mouth. My mouth wasn't resting. I tried to ignore my uncomfortableness though.

Then Dr. Heng started to do his work. I could hear the clanging of tools, and even the whirring of a motor. I guess it was the sound of me cutting my tooth into pieces.

As my mouth was opened too widely (due to the too big piece of sponge), I couldn't swallow my saliva properly. So when some saliva went into the back of my throat, it caused me to gag rather suddenly. So I jerked a little to cough.
That was when Dr. Heng said what I was doing was dangerous as he was cutting my tooth. Any sudden movement of mine might led him to accidentally cut my tongue!

I told him that this sponge was too big and I couldn't close my mouth enough to allow me to swallow. But he said the sponge is necessary so that my mouth has a gap big enough for him to work on.

So I had no choice but to continue biting that damn sponge. And then it happened again. Saliva crept into the back of my throat which led me to suddenly jerk up to cough.
Then the dentist asked the nurse to remove my sponge, and just asked me to open my mouth for him.

So I happily rested my poor mouth. Only then I realized how sore my mouth was to be kept open so wide. And once the sponge was removed, no more incidents of sudden jerk or movement!
Bravo to me!

Dr. Heng finished the job in about half an hour. In the last 5 minutes or so, I could see him suturing my gums as he used a very long thread that went up and down. No sharp pain though.

After that, we discussed about the painkillers I was going to take back home. He gave me some paracetamol and told me they were safe, but might not work so well. He gave me some ibuprofen and said to take only when I couldn't stand the pain, but a little of it might go into my breast milk.
He said he would skip prescribing me the antibiotics for infection as I was breastfeeding, and would just gave me some mouth rinse, and asked me to take care of my oral hygiene.

He told me my cheeks would be swollen, and for the first 2-3 days only soft diet. And in about a week's time, everything would be all well.

The bill came to a total of RM759, inclusive of the x-ray scan, medicines, mouth rinse, etc.

I went home and after the numbness wore off, I could feel the sore and dull pain on my left cheek. And I totally couldn't eat for that first day as my mouth was real sore, and also no appetite to eat. The next day, the dull pain was still there, so I just drank some milo and some soup. Just 2 days and I lost 1.5kg.
Haha...now I know all my extra weight comes from binging on food too much!

Shern asked me to open my mouth to show him my 'pain-pain'. He saw the white gauze I bit on to stop the bleeding, and he thought that was the ulcer (He had ulcer before!). He exclaimed 'Wah...mummy, your ulcer so big ahhh'! Haha, damn funny!

I also had swollen cheek by the next day that looked like I had a sweet inside my mouth the whole time!

4 July 2013

By the third day, I could eat and slowly opened my mouth to chew. Dull pain was still there but getting less. On the fourth day, it was way better and I could eat some rice and things that didn't require much chewing. But I could see my left cheek has a bruise (light green). But it was just noticeable by eyes, the pain was already much better than the first few days.
After a week, everything was well again, although I still did not dare bite anything hard on that side. And the thread came off somewhere then too.

I read online that many people has this swollen cheek and bruise, so I knew it was normal. Furthermore Dr. Heng warned me of that beforehand too.
However, some of my friends told me they had done it before or friends who had done it before and no swollen cheek! Hmmmm......I wonder if that is true, or their memory failed them! Haha.

Anyway, I want to say Dr. Heng is a good dentist, and I would certainly recommend him to anyone who intends to have their wisdom tooth surgically removed.
He was experienced in handling it, and an efficient dentist, and he confidently did everything in a fast, smooth procedure. He was also gentle to reassure me when I told him I was scared which I liked (I hate fierce dentists!). He was also mindful and took note that I'm a breastfeeding mum abd prescribed me meds accordingly.

Anyway, I have another wisdom tooth left, which I am NOT gonna remove it 'til it starts giving me problems. Although Dr. Heng is a good dentist, having swollen cheeks and dull pain ain't exactly my cuppa tea, you know?

***Please take note that this post is NOT sponsored. I went to the dentist myself and paid the dentist charges with my own money. All text and opinions are of my own and represents my honest opinion of the product(s).

Today I Cried

I cried for our country, Malaysia.
No, I did not cry hysterically, or shed bucketful of tears. It was more like a silent cry inside of me.

So this is how Lim Kit Siang and all other leaders have to go through again and again, and yet they don't give up. I really salute them. This is my first 'wake up call', and I am already feeling like shit.

Many people said no matter what, we should move on and fight again in the next election. But seeing how we always have to fight on unfair grounds makes it seem to pointless.

I love my country, but I am just a normal Malaysian. I am a normal mum trying to think for the benefits of my family. First thing in my mind: Do my kids have a future in Malaysia? I seriously don't know. Will Chinese always be treated as second-class citizens and asked to 'balik China'?

Listening to this song again, a tear or two just trickled down my cheeks.

Listen to this song people, and tell me, if you've shed a tear or two too...

www.tanshuyin.com

Erm....if you guys did notice, I redirected my blog to www.tanshuyin.com.

Finally, I've decided to buy my own domain name. Got it at a discount at USD$2.95 for the 1st year and I was feeling rather pleased at myself. Decided to continue to host it using blogger for now to spare myself some headache on learning how to host my own site.
Yes, I'm a noob on this.

Even configuring how to host my own domain name on Blogger had me scratching my head for 3 whole days. I need to thank Mr. Google for helping me solve it.

Ok, so for now, I'm blogging at www.tanshuyin.com *BIG SMILE* :D

I Am An Online Shopaholic.

Hie, my name is Tan Shu-Yin, and I am an online shopaholic.

Yes, I am so addicted to online shopping nowadays. I've been spending hours in front of my laptop after Shern sleeps at night.
I know I should be sleeping more since I won't be getting much sleep once 'Lil Bub is out, but I can't help it. That is what I say I'm an online shopaholic!

I don't always end up buying stuff, but I do add lotsa things into my cart, although usually I don't checkout my cart.

However, I am a very stringent online shopaholic.

I do a lot of research before I buy anything. I make sure that the product is the cheapest, if not, one of the cheapest I could find online. I read lots of reviews, and I always read the bad reviews first.
I almost always only checkout my cart when I reach the minimum amount to entitle me for free shipping. And I do this by sharing the purchase with friends.

Doing online shopping makes me a more well-informed shopper. This is because I do more research, and thus read more reviews. And I always feel good when I pay less than what I have to pay in a shop.

I love going through sites after sites, viewing the products, oohh ahhh at them, even if I end up buying nothing. It is so therapeutic. Haha. When I find that doing this is therapeutic, I know I'm addicted. Gah.
It is as addictive as Pinterest, maybe even more so.

I've been purchasing mostly baby stuff such as personal care items, toys and baby gears online. And I've bought books of course, and also supplements and vitamins online.
I haven't got around buying clothing yet. Still worried if the size doesn't fit me well. But I guess someday, I will do it. Soon.

These are some of my favourite sites:
- iherb (Vitamins, Supplements, and Health Products) - this is where I bought those organic stuff i blogged about.
- mybbstore (Baby Products)
- Book Depository (Books with free delivery worldwide)
- Asos (Clothes, Shoes, Accessories and more) - I can view for hours on this site alone
- Bubalot (Baby, Toddler, and Children Products) - Buds products are on sale, currently
- Etsy (Handmade Stuff)

So what are your favourite online shopping sites? Please share.

31 Weeks Preggy and Shopping in KL

17 July 2012 - 31 weeks preggy

I just got back from KL yesterday.

And I've got to thank my hubby for this trip because he stayed home and took care of Shern while his wife went shopping in KL! How terrific is my hubby, right?
Not only he stayed home to be the babysitter, but he paid for his wife's shopping!
God gave me the best hubby in the whole wide world. ;)

My gynae asked me to walk more so that I will have an easy delivery. I actually walked 'til I had 3 plasters on my left foot! Haha.

My Shopping Left Foot - 17 July 2012

It's actually not a bruised foot, but I felt that due to all the walking, and maybe some leg swelling at the end of the day, my shoe kinda scratch against certain parts of my foot. So to prevent it from being scratched further, I plastered the area. It's a prevention move actually.

But it didn't help that I have a shopaholic-walking-mum who can walk the malls for 12 hours without buying anything! In fact, that was what we did. We actually walked the malls from 10am-10pm for 3 consecutive nights, but we bought loads of stuff though! Haha.

It was a great short trip. I really enjoyed myself. And all thanks to hubby for staying home with Shern. I love you hubby! Thanks for everything!

I Lost My Voice. I Am Sick.

I have been rather quiet lately. And this is true literally speaking. This is because I lost my voice.

I had a very bad sore throat since last Saturday. It hurt even when I try to swallow my own saliva. I haven't been this sick since I last went to Hong Kong back in 2010.
I dragged myself to see the doc on Monday because I wasn't getting better and I rather not prolong it in case I pass it to Shern. So now armed with antibiotics, flu and cough meds, I sleep my day away everyday.

I am amazed by how much I can sleep. I wake up at about 7.45am every day to prepare Shern for playschool, and then by midday, I sleep for as long as 3 hours. And when night time comes, I sleep again for another 8 hours. This is a lot for me because on usual days when I'm not sick, if I grabbed an afternoon nap, I would've stayed awake 'til 2am!

I've forgotten how bad it is to be sick. It feels terrible. I'm feeling sleepy and lethargic all the time. And with the flu, I can't breathe properly and I coughed 'til I vomited just now.
My throat is not hurting me that much anymore, but now I've got a very husky voice and I sound like a man.

Now all I hope is that I don't pass these germs to Shern. *pray hard*

;)

I know I've been missing from the blogging world. Life has been pretty hectic and thus the blogging pause.
  • Just finished unpacking the big luggage that we lugged back for our South Africa trip.
  • Took a 4 days trip down to KL for training. And just finished unpacking for that too.
  • Was down with diarrhoea and vomiting and is on the bout of recovery. I am still too scared to fart because I may end up shitting in my pants.
  • Doing spring cleaning for CNY. I can't believe CNY is next Monday!
  • And I'm still yet to get my angpows ready. Still counting my money. :)
Sigh. But I think it's exciting. Shern's cousins will be back during CNY and he is finally big enough to actually play with them I hope!

Goodbye 2011.

  • It was a year of travel, with me going all the way to USA and South Africa, and also not forgetting Hong Kong, Singapore, Phuket, Lumut, Pangkor, KL, etc. I found that I super love travelling!
  • I wore a bikini for the first time in Phuket.
  • Baking took a plunge this year, with only about 20 bakes or so.
  • And I guess baking took a plunge because I found a new hobby - Scrapbooking and I've been an addict ever since!
  • I made a few new friends this year, something not easy for SAHM.
  • I rekindled with old friend.
  • Shern started talking (at 20 mths), and I was ecstatic. Now a little less so because he just wouldn't stop!
  • Hubby won us a new flat-screened TV and thus we are no longer the only ones using boxed TV!
  • Took Shern to many places in Penang that we dedicated a new category in my blog called Cuti-cuti Penang.
  • Addicted to Edo Ichi's Soft Shell Crab and Salmon Skin Salad, and am now salivating as I type.
  • Loved 2011 because I saw Wen twice this year. Made me realized how much I missed her.
  • Attended the most beautiful wedding ever. My sis's wedding in Cape Town.
  • Celebrated our 10th Year Dating Anniversary.
  • This year is mostly about Yiu-Shern. I had 67 posts written about him.
Somehow 2011 just flew by for me. It was a year I treasure.
2011 gave me hope, love and discoveries.
Goodbye 2011. Thank you for everything.

All of us at home are Bananas, I hope Shern won't be

All the people in our house are "bananas". When I said bananas, it means that we are Chinese but we can't really speak Mandarin. We are all english educated.

Me. Hubby. Sisters. Parents. Parents-in-laws. Sister-in-law. Everyone.

But hubby & I have decided to send Shern to a Chinese primary school. But we speak English to Shern at home. So how is he going to adapt?

This is our plan: Speak English to Shern at home. Send him to a Chinese-speaking nursery and kindy, and hope that he can pick up Mandarin there. Then send him to a Chinese primary school. And maybe send him for Chinese tuition.

My worry now is whether will this work? Will he be able to cope?
Will he be able to blend in with the other fluent-chinese-speaking friends?
Will he be able to do understand enough to complete his homework?

Our rational for sending him to a Chinese school is this - no matter how bad his English language may be, it will still be better than our Chinese language.
And furthermore China is really big now. I don't want Shern to lag behind just because he can't speak Mandarin like his parents.

Being a mum has so much worries. This is just 1/1000 worries I have for Shern.

Rest

We've been back from Singapore last Tuesday but 'til now I still have not felt normal yet. The post-fever symptom is still dragging on and the cough germ has caught up with me. Thus, the silence on my blog.

I just felt like sleeping every day. And the weird thing is, although I've taken a 3-4 hours of afternoon nap, I still sleep like a dead log at night. I know this is not normal. (Who takes 3-4 hours of nap, anyway?)

I guess my body needs it. It is tired. It wants rest. More rest.
I'm just glad Shern lets me rest and even slept with me during my afternoon naps.

So when my body is back to normal, I will resume blogging. 'Til then.

Paying Income Taxes

Hubby & I always dread 30 June every year. Why?
Because it is the deadline to submit our Income Tax.

And because we are self-employed, our income don't get deducted every month by our employers. Which means that on 30 June every year, we would tabulate our income and expenses, and suddenly the amount will hit us in the face. Shit....we are going to pay this huge stack of notes to the government?

And I am always the one who have to sort out all the receipts, credit card statement, payslips, etc. That is the most difficult part of the whole thing. Sorting.
After sorting, hubby would then tabulate all the numbers in the Borang B.

This is how I keep all these papers (we've to keep them for 7 years...ridiculous!), all punched with a hole and tied with a string according to categories.

Guess what? We spent about RM9k on books in 2010. Wow, did we really spend that much on books? Well, the receipts say so.

And this year was the first year we started using e-Filing. Yeah, we are late-bloomers. :P

And before we know it, now is already August. Which means another 10 more months and I will be going through this nightmare again. How time flies!

New TV!

This is how our TV looks like in our living room.
Yes, I think we are the only ones among our friends who has a boxed TV at home! It's a 29-Inch Panasonic TV.

We bought this TV in 2006 when we moved into our 1st home. At that time, flat-screened TV were still very expensive, so we chose to have this. And after 5 years, it is still working perfectly fine, so we are still using it.

Until yesterday......because......
We've won a Samsung 32-Inch LCD TV! Yay!

Yes, hubby was the lucky bird yesterday at The Star Property Fair Lucky Draw. You can read about it here.

So we are going to have a new FLAT-SCREENED TV in our living room! That is until we've got some help to move the huge boxed TV away. It is very heavy, you know!

Being A Malaysian

I grew up singing 'Negaraku', 'Malaysia Berjaya', 'Sejahtera Malaysia' and many other patriotic songs. I grew up proud to be a Malaysian.

Until now, although most of my friends are Chinese, I also have Malay and Indian friends, some even became very good friends. I love how it is relatively safe to walk through the streets and mingle with people of different races and religions and yet we have a common language - Bahasa Malaysia.

Now that I am a mother, I'm proud that my son holds the Malaysian Passport. When I speak almost fluent English when I visited US, people were amazed and asked where am I from. I beamed proudly and answered 'Malaysia'.

Hubby now talked frequently of migrating to other countries for a better education and better future for our children. I used to ignore him because deep down in my heart, I love Malaysia and still has hope for Malaysia.

But after the recent Bersih 2.0 Rally, I became sad. Sad to actually see and realized what Malaysia has now become. Our country, although so called democratic, does not even allow peaceful protests and our police acting violence against peaceful protesters. All we want is to have clean and fair elections!

Maybe hubby is right. Maybe we need to move out of Malaysia for a better future for our children. We are after all being called 'pendatang asing' by our own people in our own country!

I Am Back From The States!

Yes, peeps...I am back. I am finally back!
Phew....it was an awesome trip this time but it really does feel good to be back. Nothing beats home sweet home. And nothing beats seeing my baby. ;)

However, my hands are really full now. I've to take care of Shern with my jetlag and I've to unpack my luggage and wash a mountain of clothes. And I've to clean the dirty house.

So for now, no time to blog. No time to upload photos. I am finding time to breathe after I am back. So 'til then.

My Pimply Face

Since I reached puberty when I was 11 years old, my face is full of pimples. As in lots of them. There is no such word as 'pimple' in my vocabulary, it's always 'pimpleS' with a capital S.

I was always feeling insecure during school days, knowing that my face is full of pimples. And with me being so active in guiding did not help. I spent days in camps without washing my face properly. Hey, I barely slept when I went camping, let alone have the time to wash my face! (Ok, excuses...I know.)

So what facial products did I use during school days? Well, the normal commercials facial brands such as Oxy, Clean and Clear, Neutrogena, etc. Does it work? Well, I'm not sure. Either my hormones were raging too hard or I just used the wrong product.

So what facial products did I use AFTER school days? Well, the same. And guess what? I did NOT do the most basic steps. I did not cleanse, tone and moisture. Haha. Well, I did know about it. I did own some toners before but then after a few days, I became lazy and skipped the toner part. As for moisturizing, I always find the moisturizer too oily and made my face worse after using it. So I skipped that too.

I cannot believe I spent so many years JUST cleansing my face. Fullstop. So naturally all my dead skin cells piled onto my face. And it got so bad that even when I scratched my fingernails through my face, I could see all my dead skin cells underneath my fingernails. Ewwww...i know. It just did not occur to me that I need to use the toner to remove the dead cells. *doink*. I just didn't know what to do then.

So since I am turning 30 next year, I suddenly woke up and decided that I must do something about my face. I then decided that I would spend some money on facial products. Then early this year, I grabbed the Clinique 3-step facial retailing at RM150, which I think is reasonably priced. And that was the first time I went near the cosmetic counters at Parkson!

I actually did not do much research on why I chose Clinique. Maybe because I like that they were reasonably priced, and that they are dermatologically tested and is fragrance-free. Anyway, it was just a grab-and-go kind of decision.

Clinique Basic 3-Step

I told myself that I would use them twice daily without fail and see how long I would last. And surprisingly I did last. I still use them twice daily without fail. I am so proud of myself. And just by doing this basic 3-steps, I find my face became smoother and all the dead cells were gone! I was impressed and decided to go back to the Clinique counter for some advice.

It was then that they asked me to attend their Clinique Workshop. You pay RM150 and RM120 can be redeemed for Clinique products which means that you are paying RM30 for the workshop. They told me that at the 2-hour workshop, I would get to learn how to wash my face correctly and which products to use, etc.

The Clinique Workshop is being held at G-Hotel, just next to Gurney Plaza which is very convenient for me. When I reached there, outside the room, there is a table of premium coffee and tea selection. Not being a coffee-person, I chose Earl Grey, something familiar.

I initially felt a little weird because I knew no one there. There were about 5 of them already there. Then someone called out to me. She turned out to be hubby's friend. Well, what a small world indeed.

Clinique Workshop @ G Hotel - 13 March 2011

After that, we were invited into a small room and there were four tables there. Six participants to a table. We were all already being assigned to a table and we sat at our respective tables, waiting for the other participants. This is how it looks like from where I was seated at my table (My table was in front).

From where I sat

In front of me is a whole set of stuff: a mirror, two hair clips, a small bowl filled with water, a facial napkin on top of it, a bottle of mineral water with a glass, a paper pad with a pencil. Very well prepared.

The table arrangement in front of me

Once there only then I realized that this is a workshop promoting Clinique's latest brightening range called Derma White (the person who sold me the tickets did not tell me this).
It started with a powerpoint presentation by a Clinique representative from KL explaining the history of Clinique and the breakthrough of their products. Even that was something new for me, since I am new to Clinique. Then they have this ice-breaking session where participants would get something if we answer correctly. After that we had a 15 minutes break for some snacks outside the room where the tea and coffee were. Snacks were delicious. Hehe.

Then to the main part of the workshop; hands-on. One Clinique personnel to a table. Very good interaction. we were told to stip off our makeup or whatever we have on our face. She guided us and gave us Clinique's products to use step-by-step. She provided us the facial cotton and all.

For me it was very informative. I also get hands-on experience on how to wash my face, how to apply moisturizer and eye-cream, which products should be used first. What is the reason for using these products. Mostly used is the Derma White range, since they are promoting this.
And the best part is, they don't give everyone the same product. Mine is the Dry to Normal Combination skin, so she gave me the one which suited me.

And I learned that for my skin, I need to double-cleanse! And that I actually have very dry skin which eventually leads to my skin producing a lot of oil. I had always thought I have oily skin.

After 2 hours sharp, the workshop ended. I then received a door gift which consists of a 6-piece Clinique travel pack. It was an eye-opener workshop for me. I find it interesting, not too draggy and worth the money; RM30 for the workshop using all their products, for the delicious snacks and premium tea and also for the travel pack worth RM170.

Then I walked straight to the Clinique counter at Gurney Plaza to redeem my RM120. Ended up spending an extra RM300.
I got myself a milk-based double cleanser, a mask and a scrub, laser focus repairwear to reduce pimple scars, moisture surge cream to lock in my moisture and an eye cream. And they threw in loads of free gifts and samples.

My Clinique Stash

I am still using it, for 3 months already. I guess Clinique suits me for now.

So how is my face now? Personally I feel that it is smoother, more stable with less breakouts and I feel my face being cleaner than ever, and that is a wonderful feeling. And to outsiders they might not noticed the difference. Haha. I guess it takes years, since I had been neglecting it for tens of years. ;)

Of course my face would never be like those flawless complexions but it is finally getting some attention from me! :)

p/s - This is NOT a Clinique Advertorial. It is all based on my personal experience.

Me In My Twenties

I suddenly realized that I'd just celebrated my 29th birthday in January. Which means that this is the last year that I will be in my twenties. Then I went through my photos and saw how much I have changed since I was twenty (physical outlook).

So here they are. Since I was 20 years old 'til now......

2002 - This is me when I was 20. What a haircut.
Taken during Wen's b'day at mum's place.

2003 - 21 years old. I cropped my hair short. First taste of freedom when I went to Melbourne for studies.
This was taken just before I flew at Emah's house.

2004 - 22 years old. Just joined the work force.
At Coffee Beans with Pat, Lay Ming n FonLeang if I remember correctly.

2005 - 23 years old. Egg-head hairstyle - centre parting. Went to Cameron Highlands with my then bf/now hubby Peter.

2006 - 24 years old. Had our ROM and became Mrs. Lim legally. Shit, I married so young.
At the Penang Botanical Gardens.

2007 - 25 years old and had our Wedding Dinner Reception.
Taken at our first home at Coastal Towers.

2008 - 26 years old and this is the year I got pregnant and quit my job.
At Cameron Highlands again.

2009 - 27 years old. Became a mummy.
Taken 6 months after giving birth to Shern at IDT Line Dance Xmas Party.

2010 - 28 year old.
At Haagen-Dazs during my birthday.

2011 - 29 years old. My last year at being in my twenties.
Recently taken a month ago at Red Rock Hotel with my best friend, Bee Shin.

There. 10 years of me. So what did you all noticed? From a gawky, super-thin, innocent girl to a fleshy me.
So many people I have not met for quite some time came up to me and said, 'Hey, you gain more flesh now!'
Just one thing to clarify (again!). It is NOT pregnancy or Shern that makes me fat. It's my own doing. I eat too much of my own baking! :P

Another thing which remains the same. I am still a noob in makeup. Listen up, I am 29 years old and I don't own a make-up set. No mascara, no blusher, no eye colour. I only own a lipstick and a lip gloss. Hahaha. Serious...I think I need someone to help me with this. Gotta learn this before I hit 30 right?

Anyway, I'm going to enjoy my last year being a twenty-something!

Putting On A Brave Face

Sometimes i forget that this blog is my sanctuary, my personal space. I use this blog to document all my happy moments that i tend to forget that it is also a place where i can vent my unhappiness.

When i feel unhappy or sad, I find it difficult to put on a brave face when I am feeling so rotten inside. But as a mummy, I need to put on a brave face and just continue with the day.

I also need to put on a brave face, with a forced smile for my family and friends, because I do not want them to ask me questions I do not wish to answer.

But really, putting on a brave face, for all is making me feel worse. All I want is to just cry out loud!

My Life List

Was blog hopping a few days ago and came across this blog post of Life List. It inspired me to create my own Life List. And no, I haven't watch The Bucket List. In that movie, the Life List is called the Bucket List. It is 'things to do before one "kicks the bucket" (i.e. dies)'.

Life is too short not to enjoy it to the fullest. Don't just go with the crowd. Do and enjoy things your own way. Please others only if it pleases you. Live your life for yourself. Do things that makes you happy.

I am someone who likes writing. I like writing down my thoughts and I like keeping a journal of everything. My trips. My thoughts and my feelings. I am a pro-diary person and I kept a diary since I was 8. So writing my own Life List just makes perfect sense.

Hurt

I know I made a mistake. And I'm really sorry about it. I didn't mean it. It was pure accidental.
But the things you said to me were spiteful. I wonder if you mean it. It's really bothering me. The words kept flashing out to me.

I'm so so hurt. By you.
