Every Chinese New Year, there will surely be Nian Gao in mum's place. It is usually decorated with red paper cuttings on the alter mantelpiece.
It is a tradition that during Chinese New Year, family members gather around the steamed nian gao. With a chopstick each, stick it into the nian gao. Twirl the chopstick to pick up some of the sticky dough and coat it with coconut.
A family that sticks together stays together!
I like eating the sticky sweet nian gao with grated coconut. I love the glue-y feeling. It makes me feel all glue-y inside! :)
