Khye's Newborn Photoshoot

These photos were taken when Khye was 12 days old by Karen Sim from K Studio as mentioned here during the week 2 update.
Lovin' these photos. So much.

She came right into our home and brought all the props there, including the lighting etc.

Love the little props she brought such as the measuring tape.
Simple but yet so meaningful.

And just a roll of blue ribbons make the photos so very pretty.

A photo of baby Khye with mummy & daddy.

Khye with daddy.

This is one of my favourite photos of all. So loving the tender moment of Khye with mummy.

Shern was not around when the photoshoot take place.
But nvm, we will be having another shoot when Khye turns 6 months, and this time we will make sure Shern koko is included as well.

Thanks so much Karen for such beautiful photos.

Yiu-Khye - Week 4

6 October 2012

Pee-s and Poo-s

He still pees as frequently. About 15-20 diapers a day. But in his wet lampin, there is less poo. Which means that he doesn't mix pees and poos together so much. So hopefully next week or so,

Lifting His Head

Khye has been trying to lift his head while he lies on his tummy. I can't believe a 3 weeks old baby has so much strength. Sometimes he could even lift up for quite a while. Amazing. I've forgotten how strong baby can be.

Gurgles and Coos

Khye sometimes gurgles and coos when we talk to him. He even makes sound when no one talks to him. It's nice to hear him makes some sound other than crying. Haha.

Musical Cot Mobile

Khye has the same musical cot mobile as Shern's. It's the free Anmum musical cot mobile by Dr. Eric 3 years ago. *grin*

For now, Khye is pretty oblivious to it. He couldn't really see it hanging just on top of him yet. Unless I pull it down a little and dangle it right in front of his eyes. I'm not sure if it's the colours of the star/moon that attracts his attention, or the rattle sound it makes when I shake them.

I manage to capture Khye having a little sweet smiley dream in pho-pho's house.

10 October 2012
Jaundice

I continued to bring him down for a little sunbathing every morning and evening as long as there is still sun, and is not raining. After several days, I noticed that the yellow-ness in his face has gradually come down. His eye whites are not so yellow. I'm of course not so sure of his bilirubin yellow, but I'm still glad that he doesn't look so yellow anymore.

We will be seeing his paed next Monday, so we will then see what his paed has to say.

Diaper Rash

He has developed diaper rash this week. His Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm works really good thus far. The rash goes away in awhile, but it comes back too after awhile. I wonder why.
I may go back to using Bepanthen and see if the rash goes away.

Sleeping

Khye now has more waking hours comparing to his first few weeks. He is now more or less awake for about 2 hours throughout the day, just opening his eyes and gazing around.
He is quite contented just sleeping in his secure sleeper, even when awake.

Anyway, one thing though. Khye is such a big and long baby. He almost reaches the length of his secure sleeper. And he kicks ever so much. I remember Shern didn't actually reach the foot of the secure sleeper even when he reaches 1 month old, and Shern certainly didn't kick so much. But many times I saw Khye slipped down a 'lil and his feet were actually hanging out of it. Ooh la la.

However, I always seem to capture his photos only when he is sleeping. Whenever I went to grab my camera, Khye would half close his eyes and by the time I focus the camera on him, his eyes are already close. Lol.

Anyway, so these are photos of my sleeping Baby Khye.

Yiu-Khye - Week 3

2 October 2012 - Week 3

Jaundice

Khye's bilirubin level was 192 last Thurs. We skipped the test on weekends and tested again on Monday. I was praying for the level not to be more than 250. If not, Khye would have to be hospitalized to go under phototheraphy, which would be a pity, because his skin would get so dry, and he would have his eyes closed using eye pad all the time. Khye is already big enough and is now opening his eyes for a longer period of time every day.So it woild be a real pity if he had to have his eyes closed for almost the entire time, to get the most out of the phototheraphy.

But Khye was a good boy and when we took him to the Tg Bungah Gov Clinic on Monday, his level did not increase, and is 190. Although it is not very low, but it is low enough for me. I was smiling all the time at the clinic.

And when we went to the gov clinic to check again today, Fri, 5 Oct, reading dropped further to 142. We are all so relieved and happy!

Breastfeeding

We are still doing direct latching. No bottle feeding yet. I should be introducing bottle to Khye only when he is about 4 weeks old, to avoid nipple confusion.
I don't quite know how much Khye is consuming every time because I do not know how much he suckles. But as long as he poos and pees alright, and his weight is going up, then he should be having enough. And as long as I hear him sigh a contented relieve after every suckle, he should be alright.

Sunbathing

To further lower down his jaundice level, I took Khye down to our apartment garden for sunbathing every morning and every evening, when the sun is not too harsh. Every day, as long as the sun is shining. God has been kind these few days and there is more sun, and less rain this week.

I put a sarong on the soft bed of grass and lay down Khye there. If Khye's face faces the sun, then I would put a rolled up hanky over his eyes to shield from the sun. If his face turns away from the sun, then it is alright without the hanky.

I managed to capture many facial expressions of Khye while he was sunbathing with his eyes closed.

How Is Mummy Doing?

Milk supply seems to have its own mood. At times, after Khye suckles, I need to express very long and could only get 2-3oz of milk. But at other times, I could yield 5-6oz.
However, my ebm is starting to fill up my freezer. Luckily my cousin is gonna lend me her freezer. Yay!

Been drinking lots of liquid - from Black Dates and Longan Water to Anlene Lacta Milk to Soups. This is the sure way I know that can make me have more breastmilk.

It is actually quite relaxing having Mum as my confinement lady. It is more flexible and I feel more relaxed. Mum is there to take care of Khye, to change his dirty napkins and such. This is extremely helpful especially in the middle of the night, when Mum only passes Khye to me for breastfeeding. Because I sometimes do wake up more often to express milk, often when Khye couldn't drain both breasts.

And in return, I get to spend some quality time with mum. We talk a lot as usual, and we even watched a classic series Thorn Birds on tv together. Richard Chamberlain and Christopher Plummer act in it, so you can imagine how old is this show. It is slow, but is nice, but of course the book is nicer, one of my favourites.

Ok...1+ week more to go until fullmoon, and my confinement is over. Yeah!

The Presents

The moment Shern came into my hospital room, he said he has a present for mummy and baby.
This is what Shern drew for us.

It reads:
MUMMY + DADDY
I LOVE U
I LOVE BABY
FROM: YIU-SHERN

The biggest face on top supposedly is mummy, me - because Shern said I'm the biggest =)
(coz he remembers my big tummy during pregnancy!).
The smallest face below me is baby Khye.
Then it's daddy's face.
And the bottom face is Shern's. He said he drew his teeth like that because he was smiling. :)

Of course pho-pho was the one who drew the dotted lines for Shern to follow.

After that,we told Shern that baby Khye has got a present for him. We then took out a wrapped gift in a plastic bag. (We bought the present from Tesco and had it wrapped in advance). Shern was excited as he peered inside the plastic bag. And of course, he couldn't wait to tear off the wrapper.

He was happy when he saw that it is a big grey car! We forgot to take a photo of the car.

After that Shern gave baby Khye a kiss and said 'Thank You Yiu-Khye for the car!'.
Awwwwww......:D

The Silent Super Hubby

15 September 2012

Usually, once we mummies have babies, the hubby is neglected.

Our laptop wallpaper, mobile phone screensaver, profile pictures instagram updates and such are all about our babies. Not to mention the frequent tweets and status updates.

However, the excitement of a new baby does not make me love my hubby less. It is just that I have another extra person to love. I always feel that love cannot be divided, only multiplied!

Hubby is the silent super daddy.
He now becomes the primary caretaker of Shern, now that Khye is here. This means that he puts Shern to sleep at night and prepares Shern for playschool every morning, etc.
He is now the primary driver in the house, driving me to the hospital and gov clinic, and fetches Shern to and fro from playschool.
He also helps around with the baby - fetching wipes, preparing bath water, and even changing dirty nappies.
And he does all this on top of the usual work he has to do, he after all is the breadwinner in our family.

And at night, he even has time for the wifey. After our kids are asleep, it is our 'dating' time. We either catches up on each others daily updates, or we watches tvb series together. This is our quality time together as hubby and wifey.

I thank my lucky stars every day for having such a nice and loving hubby. Thank you for being The Silent Super Hubby!

Like I said, 'Love cannot be divided, only multiplied'....I love you, hubby!

Yiu-Khye - Week 2

...growing even in his sleep

Jaundice

Khye's bilirubin level continued to go up. It showed a reading of 214 when we took him to the Tg Bungah gov clinic for testing on 21 Sep, Friday. The next day, we noticed Khye was more yellow. And the gov clinic is closed on weekends, so we couldn't get any bilirubin reading done.
So we decided to bring Khye to Island Hospital to see Dr. Dan.

Khye was then admitted to Island Hospital for phototheraphy on 22 Sep, Sat. His bilirubin reading was 256 the next day and then dropped down to 186 and then 164. He then got discharged but his reading went up again to 192 on 27 Sep, Thu.

Dr. Dan did mention now that Khye is more than 10 days old, it is not harmful if jaundice level is below 250. So now we are continueing to monitor him and also to sunbathe him (praying for sun and less rain). And I pray that it is not breastmilk jaundice like his brother, in which he was yellow for more than a month.

Of Poo-s and Pee-s

Khye poos and pees about 15 to 20 times a day. I know, coz he wears lampin during the day, and thus I could count the number of diapers he changes.
Everytime he pees, there is usually a small amount of poo inside it. So even if he wears disposable diapers, I still need to change it so frequently. The only difference is that I get more broke if I use disposables. :)
His stools is golden yellow in colour, in which his peds said is a good colour, and getting him to poo more is actually good to get rid of his jaundice. But by the number of lampins need to be washed each day, I think he is doing very well.

Milk

Khye is still on mummy's milk. He is like a little piranha and he latched on rather roughly at times. At the hospital, the nurses there spoon-fed him 4oz of my ebm. My little baby gobbling up 4oz of ebm......that's a big appetite for a less than 2 weeks old baby!
I need to make sure my milk production can keep up with my baby's appetite.

Back at home, he is on direct latch so I have no idea how much he suckles, but i assume he must have 3-4oz every time. Anyhow, as long as he seems contented after every feed, then it should be alright. Sometimes, he could not drain both my breasts, so I need to express out after his feed, and this is how I manage to store up to 20+ bottles of ebm in my freezer.

Little Toe on his Left Leg

We noticed Khye's little toe on his left leg was scratched when Khye was discharged from Island Hospital on 25 Sep, Tue. The next day, we noticed that his little toe was swollen. We got a little alarmed and brought him to see peds on Thursday. Dr. Dan said he had no choice but to start him on antibiotics as it was quite bad. We were told to monitor him and in case it got worse, then to bring him back on Sat.
It looks OK but we still brought him back to see the peds. Dr. Dan then reassured us it is getting better and asked us to continue with the meds and to apply Fucidin cream on it.

Sleep

Khye has been an angel, really. He sleeps well on his own in his secure sleeper bed, and don't really need to be carried. He could just lie down there quietly by himself.
At night, he sleeps well and wake up every 3-4 hourly for feed. Sometimes 2 hourly if he fuses. Overall, he sleeps well and is well rested.

Photoshoot

Khye had a photoshoot with Karen Sim from K Studio. The photo above is by her and is so pretty, I love it so much. More photos to be shared later.

How Is Mummy Doing?

I am basically fine, other than a little infection on my c-sec wound. But it has been much better with antibiotic. As this confinement period is less stressful, thus I am more relaxed and I believe this is why I have more milk compared to the previous time. And coupled with breastfeeding knowledge from my experience, I am producing more milk this round.

However, I am kinda feeling bored staying at home. I'm so glad 2 weeks is over. 2 more weeks to go and I'm free!

Yiu-Shern - 39 Months

This is my big boy at 3 years & 3 mths old, cheeky as ever.

22 September 2012 - 3 years & 3 mths old

Growth

He has not been growing any heavier much these days. We stand on our home weighing scale every night before sleep, and he is about 14kg.
But he has grown so much taller. We have this free height measurement sticker that we stick on our wall and I measure Shern's height from time to time. The last i measured him, he was about 97cm tall! He is shooting up well so far.

Playschool

Shern has been loving school, though he never really talk to me about what he does in school. Everytime I ask him 'What did you do in school today?', his answer would be 'play toys'. Haha. But anyway, my aim was to let him learn through play, so is ok. After all, Shern is only 3yo. I plan to let him have all the childhood he can have!

Since I'm in confinement now, hubby has been preparing Shern for school every day. I'm so proud of both of them. Proud of hubby because he could handle him, and proud of Shern coz he behaves very well.

Eating

Shern has been eating quite well. His new favourite is fried rice. I can put in french beans n carrots (chopped into small pieces) and yet he still eats them. Then Shern would declare to everyone proudly that he iseating his vege! Haha
And of course he still loves his eggs or any black sauce (tau ewe bak sauce). And one hawker food he likes is beehoon koay chiap. This hawker food is not easily found in Penang. But whenever we frequent the stall in Kuching Lane, Shern loves it. It's about the only hawker food he really fancies.\\

Big Brother

Shern is promoted to Bog Brother title after Khye is born. Shern has not yet really grasp the significance of having a baby at home yet, because for now during confinement period, Shern is in my mum's house.
But whenever he sees baby Khye, he would pat him to sleep, and also asks that he carries baby. There was even several times he sang to Khye, and I am amused to see that he uses a soft, whisper-y voice when he sings to Khye!

This is what Shern did when I told him to smile to the camera. Then I asked him to smile again with his eyes open. It seems that whenever he smiles big, he needs to close his eyes! Hehe.
