Meet-Up with Daniel & Family

We met up last Friday at Penang Swimming Club as Daniel & family was back from KL for Shawn & Michelle's wedding.

It was my first time to PSC's Chinese Restaurant since the reno.
It was a pleasant dinner, with nice food and nice ambience. Price was reasonable too but I wish the portions were a lil bigger.

It was also probably the last time we got to see Siow Sen before she delivers. Her tummy is huge - anytime soon.

The following night, we had dinner at G-Hotel to attend Shawn & Michelle's wedding. Daniel was the MC, thus the coat.

Pho-Pho

It is almost 1am and I am sitting in the living room all by myself. Hubby is in the toilet and Shern is asleep.

I am appreciating the quietness now. No baby cries for a moment. I did not pick up Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol to read. I did not switch on the tv. I felt like thinking.

I don't know why but suddenly thoughts of my Pho-pho came to mind. My childhood with her. How she raised my up 'til my school days. How I would never ever missed going back to her house every Friday night after that.

I still remember clearly how she looked like. I still remember her curly hair. Her kind eyes. Her smell.
I always feel sad when I couldn't deliver my promise to her. I remembered promising her she would one day sit in a 'Big car' & stay in a 'Big House'.

I also feel sad that I did not get to talk to her much during her last days in this world. Although she is now no longer around, she is forever in my heart.

I love you Pho-pho - and I always will.

Shern's Tooth Chart

Guess what? Shern has 2 teeth already. And he is just 4 mths old! (according to baby books/sites, first tooth should be around 6-7 months old)
I just have to blog about this.

To be exact, his first tooth erupted on the 12th October 2009 - Shern's week 19.
And 4 days later, his 2nd tooth erupted.

I already mention in Shern's week 17 update that I noticed 'white-ish thingy in his gums where his 2 teeth are supposed to be' but I just did not expect them to be erupted so soon. Dr. Dan says it can take up to a month or two or even longer for the teeth to be erupted even though you have seen signs of them.

So Shern is teething very early!

Due to Shern teething, he is now VERY lemak & manja. He keeps on making those pitiful cries with no tears, as though something is bothering him all the time. He now wants to sleep in my arms if he wakes up crying in the middle of the night. I know he is going through a difficult time.

Yiu-Shern's 18 weeks Milestone

Paediatrician

Took Shern to see Dr. Dan for his 4th month checkup on the 8th Oct 2009, Thursday. Was given the 2nd dose of Rotavirus vaccine orally. He also got his 3rd dose of the 5-in-1 jab (DTPa, Polio & Hib)* on his thigh.

He was on his best behaviour the whole time. He waited patiently sitting on my lap in the waiting area. He was looking curiously at everything - the people & the noises.

I was a bit paranoid - fearing that he may catch the h1n1 flu, so we sat at a corner - away from everyone else. :P

Shern's growth measurement:
Age - 4 months @ 8 Oct 2009
Weight - 7.5 kg
Length/Height - 60 cm
Head Circumference - 41cm

I mentioned to Dr. Dan that Shern eats less nowadays - 4oz every 3-hourly (and not 2-hourly anymore). Dr. Dan then said that he will need to measure his weight gain but he said that he seems like a big boy.
And true to his words, Shern is an above average baby at 7.5kg @ 4 months.
However, Dr. Dan assured me that he is NOT obese.

8 oct 2009 - EBM via bottle

Shern did not have any fever after his jab. I was already preparing everything just in case he came down with fever after his jab just like the previous two times. I got the ear thermometer, infant paracetamol, everything ready.
But there was none! He was as active as ever! *mummy grinning from ear to ear

Sleep Pattern
Shern usually sleeps at around 10pm because his mummy dilly-dally at pho-pho's house. *grin
But when we are at home, he sleeps around 8.30pm.

Shern sleeps on his tummy (although it should be back for sleep, tummy for play). He will not sleep for long if I put him on his back.

But if I don't want him to sleep for long during the day, I will put him to sleep on his back in his rocker.

Sitting Upright
As he grows, he realized that he is fed-up with the ceiling and sky scenery. He wants to sit upright to watch the world goes by.

That is why Shern likes to sit in his Bumbo Seat. He always seems so excited whenever he is in it. He tends to lean forward and waves his two hands - then realized that he can't move - he is stuck inside there. But he still seems contented to be in there. He can sit there quietly for a longer period.

Head Lifting Upright
Shern can now lifts his head upright 90° while on his tummy. He also likes being on his tummy. He can lift up his head for a longer time now - almost 2-3 minutes at a time.

Shern nowadays makes many expressions. Now he likes to use his mouth to purse his lips.

Smiles
Shern is a smiley baby. He smiles easily. He likes people to talk to him - and he does not mind who...as long as there are people willing to spend some time to talk and play with him.
He is someone who thrives for attention :) *mummy pengsan

Drooling
Noticed all his bibs? Well, Shern is usually wearing a bib nowadays - he drools too much ;)

Poo-Overflow
The last time Shern poo-ed was last Friday 2 Oct. He then did not poo for 5 whole days. On his 6th day, Shern poo-ed THREE times. The first time was so much til poo-overflowed out from his MamyPoko onto his back and neck. Argghh......

Airport
3 of Us went to the airport to fetch Ah-Ma & Ah-Kong back from Singapore on the 7th Oct.
3 of Us went to the airport again on the 8th Oct to fetch Pho-pho and Min-yee back from Phuket.
I guess airport is the only place Shern has been to besides hospitals and family houses.

Yiu-Shern's 17 weeks Milestone

This was the week where the whole family (except the 3 of us) packed and went for a 8-day holidays in Phuket.

Mother & Son
The whole weekend was just Shern & me.
Peter went to lecture on CFA @ KDU on the whole of Sat 9am-5pm. By the time he bought dinner and reached home, it was almost 7pm.

On Sun, Peter went to Sunway Carnival to join the KFC's Catur Bistari boardgame. He went off at 8am and came back at around 5pm.

Drooling
Shern is now drooling all the time. I started to let him wear bibs. If not, he would wet his top and I would need to change it often which I was lazy to. Anyhow, his bibs were all drenched wet as well so I still needed to change his bibs twice or thrice a day.

Teething
I could see a white-ish thingy in his gums where his 2 teeth are supposed to be. However when I put my finger inside I could not feel the teeth yet. Isn't it too early for him to be teething? He is just almost 4 months old.

I then read somewhere that it says although these are signs of teething, usually the teeth won't sprout out yet for another month or two.

Hmmm...I guess that explains his 'super-wet drooling'.

Rattle Teether
Mum bought Shern his 1st Rattler Teether before she went off to Phuket. Shern loves his new Nuby Rattler Teether. It is just the right size for his little fingers. He will just grab hold of it and a second later it is in his mouth. Look at his drools.

iPood Onesie
This cute 'lil iPood onesie by Munchkins is from Soo Huey. Everytime I see Shern wearing it, I will smile. He looks so damn cute wearing it. I can't help reading it 'iPood' everytime I turn to Shern to carry him.

Bumbo Seat
I tried putting Shern into his Bumbo Seat and he seems to sit in pretty well. (will blog more about the Bumbo Seat after Shern sits on it for a longer while.)

How Is Mummy Doing?

The week started well. I managed to pump 8oz at one go!
Too bad it is just for that one time :=)

The weekend which was just Shern & me, I had no time to express milk. Could not bear to see Shern cries for 20 minutes while I express. Anyhow, his crying will make me so tense that it will affect my letdown.
So I was direct-feeding Shern for the whole weekend.

One Week of Shern All By Ourselves

I've mentioned that I've got my hands full at the moment, didn't I?
Well, it is because the little prince of my house is asking for attention 24/7.
The whole family (except Peter, Shern & I) went to Phuket for a holiday.

It has been QUITE a good week I must say. Shern did not behave well ALL the time. But I must mention that he behaved well MOST of the time.

He did have a crying fit at one time - when Mich, Wai Min & their daughter Yi Jie came for a visit. He was howling away and just would not stop not matter what I did. I guess they were also shocked to see my son crying his head off for dunno-what-reason. Haha.

I had to take care of him all by myself when hubby needs to go out for work.

No more EBM via bottle then because I had no time to express out my milk. Shern would cry if I leave him too long...and I would be too tensed trying to hurry my pumping session which resulted in less milk anyway. SoI gave up! Direct-fed Shern the whole day when hubby went to work!

Besides taking care of Shern, I still need to do laundry and somehow cleaned the mess in my house. And darn...The washing machine chose this week to go dead! I had to use my hands to rinse all the clothes, towels, etc.

I did not cook (where would I find enough time?). We had microwaved fried rice mum prepared earlier, instant noodles, take-aways & sandwiches with ham & cheese, instant pasta....
Not a bad week for food - just that most were unhealthy but yummy food!

Anyway, we had quite a number of visitors last week. Namely, Pat, Mich & family, Chiao Ju, and Ee Lyn. That is considered quite a many considering that we don't usually have visitors.

And of course all of them came to see Shern!
