Vern Chipped Off Both His Front Teeth at 13 1/2mo!

11 October 2016

All my kids seemed to be chipping off their teeth in one way or another!

Shern knocked his front left tooth when he was 3yo and it became grey-ish. Luckily after a few months, the grey-ish tooth became all white again!
As for Khye, he got his front right tooth chipped off at 23 mo! It led to him having some problem with his teeth later on.

And now it is Vern's turn. My little active baby broke all his brothers' records and he chipped off BOTH his front teeth at the age of  13 1/2mo! Sigh!
It was the day before the Mid-Autumn Festival. (I think many of you noticed his jagged teeth when I posted the above photo in my Facebook a few weeks ago!)

He fell off the sofa onto the floor and that was how he chipped both his front teeth. He liked to climb from the 3-seater sofa to the 1-seater again and again and I missed, which was not surprising as a toddler!

And so this was how he looked like. His right tooth actually chipped off first, and then a few bits of his left tooth was left dangling.
He looked like this about two months ago in end August.

These were his expressions when I tried to make him laugh so that I could take photos of his teeth!

After a few days, the bits dropped off and thus he now has two chipped front teeth!
And now he looks like this.

More pictures of his chipped front teeth. Cracked yet still cute! haha #biasedmum

And so off to the dentist we went, just to have a professional opinion. I also noticed some caries building up his upper teeth and so I wanted to let the dentist have a look at them.
So of course we went to Dr. Tow at Living Smile Dental.

He was a happy child waiting for his turn.

He was actually running about happily. I was a little nervous because the flooring was rather slippery and as with Vern running about the slippery floor, I was afraid he would chipped off more teeth before he could see the dentist! lol.

Look at how fast he was running!

Once inside, Vern was rather quiet as he was looking apprehensively at Dr. Tow. She was trying to talk to Vern, to shake his hands and to say hi-5 just to make Vern at ease.
And I was asked to continue to carry Vern while on the dentist chair. With Vern on top of my tummy, we both sat down for Dr. Tow to have a look at his teeth.
I was rather surprised that Vern obliged.

Dr. Tow was smart and told the nurse not to turn on the bright lights as not to scare Vern. Instead, he just continued to complement Vern while opening his mouth and checking his few teeth.
For the record, Vern now has 4 bottom teeth, 4 full upper teeth and 4 more sprouting out halfway. (I need to do a Tooth Chart for Vern soon!).

And with him obliging, Dr. Tow managed to use her small brush tool to clean off the thin layer of caries forming at his upper teeth. Dr. Tow told me this is common for breastfeeding baby who latches on throughout the night.

She said since his chipped teeth did not cause any exposed roots, it should be nothing to be concerned of. It's a waiting game as they teeth may turn black if the knock is hard, but it should not cause him any pain.

I'm very, very pleased with how Dr. Tow handled my toddler, with so much care and cautiousness to ensure a good experience with the dentist.

Thank you again Dr. Tow for being so very good with all 3 of my kids.
Please look for Dr. Tow at LivingSmile Dental Surgery if you are looking for a kid-friendly dentist for your young child!
